Among the best photography books, this poignant collection exposes the stark realities of life amidst societal upheaval and personal struggle. Through Mikhailov’s lens, the mundane becomes profound, as he captures the resilience and vulnerability of his subjects with unwavering honesty. Each photograph is a testament to the human spirit’s enduring resilience, inviting readers to bear witness to both the beauty and brutality of the human experience. This is a honest and beautiful book but hard to look at, hard to digest, and very hard to forget, which explores the complicated relationship between photographer and subject. Highly recommended!
