In the late 1960s, a bootleg Bob Dylan songbook began circulating, featuring unauthorized sheet music of his iconic songs. These illicit publications, often printed in crude formats, were highly sought after by fans eager to learn Dylan’s music, especially since official songbooks were limited. The bootleg editions typically included guitar chords, lyrics, and handwritten notations, capturing the rebellious spirit of the era. They were part of a broader underground culture of music piracy, reflecting Dylan’s countercultural image and the desire of fans to connect with his songs in a personal, DIY way.
