The name 仿古如意 literally means «antique-style Ruyi» — a teapot modeled on the ruyi (如意) motif and made in the spirit of older/classical forms. Because no exact pattern or maker is identified here, the precise provenance is ambiguous; the form should therefore be understood as a modern or revival interpretation rather than a documented historical exemplar.
Brief history and context: The ruyi motif — a curved, scepter-like shape whose name means «as you wish» — has been an auspicious symbol in Chinese art for many centuries, appearing on metalwork, textiles, furniture and ceramics from the Ming and Qing eras and earlier. Tea wares, especially Yixing (Zisha) teapots and scholarly-studio ceramics, frequently adopted auspicious shapes and archaic styles (仿古) to evoke classical taste and literati ideals. From the late imperial period through modern times craftsmen have made teapots that reference ritual objects, natural forms, or ruyi heads as a sign of good fortune and refined taste.
Note on the shape: A 仿古如意 teapot typically echoes the sinuous, cloud- or fungus-like sweep of the ruyi in its spout, handle or lid finial; the body tends toward compact, balanced proportions and an emphasis on harmony and symbolic meaning rather than ornate decoration.
